Scout Network Winter Weekend Camps
![]()
Our Scout Network held two weekend camps before Christmas at Glengoyne Lodge. In this blog, the Network Scouts themselves write about what they got up to…
Cobra Patrol:
The Cobra patrol began their weekend camp by creating a Scout Network monopoly board which replaced the traditional features such as the train stations with the four 77th Monday meeting halls and had amusing stops along the way including the renaming of ‘jail’ to ‘Franks summer camp kitchen’! After this we had a quick hot chocolate and an early night.
On Saturday morning everyone got up extremely early and loaded onto the mini bus for a trip to The National Flight Museum in East Fortune. The weather was uncharacteristically sunny and warm for November and we had a great day looking at all the displays, getting our photos taken, playing in the interactive centre and even a picnic lunch. After a long day at the museum we were back on the minibus and heading back to Glengoyne. We also managed to get a mention on Real Radio and our song request played which kept us happy on the long journey home.
On Sunday we had a long lie and a hearty breakfast. We then had a special Remembrance Sunday Scouts Own before a brisk walk around Auchengillian, before packing to head home.
Eagle Patrol:
The eagle patrol weekend camp started with having a go at creating a Scout Network monopoly board. Despite the terrible weather conditions throughout the weekend, the eagle patrol got up bright and early on Saturday morning and headed up to the main centre at Auchengillian to have a morning of air rifle shooting.
They then learnt how to use cooking stoves and made their own lunch. The afternoon was then spent discussing and designing ‘my ideal scout shelter’ in which we talked about conventional scout shelters and had a race to see who could put up a tent the fastest. We then planned and made small models of outdoor shelters made from traditional materials such as ropes and staves. On Sunday after Scouts Own the eagle patrol took part in an expert knot tying session and brushed up on their map reading skills.
