Glasgow Disabled Scouts

Happy New Year!

Posted on by 77thScoutGroup

As I write this in the last week of December, the newspapers seem to be filled only with reviews of the year past and predictions for the year ahead. The holidays away from our day to day Scouting are a good time for us to sit and reflect on our achievements and what lies ahead for the 77th in 2012.

2011 had many highlights – four boys being presented with their Chief Scout’s Awards at Glasgow City Chambers, our summer camp in the Lake District, our fundraising ceilidh and the reopening of our Cub Pack.

It was also a personal highlight for me to take on the role of Group Scout Leader and to welcome Mark Gilroy to the team as the new Cub Scout Leader.

Looking back is always a pleasure in the 77th, but our founder Baden Powell insisted that Scouting be called a ‘Movement’ because it should always be moving forwards, never standing still. So it is with our own Group – 2012 has many adventures planned – spring weekend camps further afield than Glengoyne Lodge, our Summer BBQ, travelling to Edinburgh for our summer camp and in August, a Summer Garden Party at Glengoyne Lodge to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The newsletter below is a brief review of the last few months and a look ahead to the various activities in the New Year.

On behalf of all the Scouters, helpers and boys may I wish you a very happy new year and all the best for a peaceful and prosperous 2012.

Michael Shanks
Group Scout Leader
