Crisis Command - 23-06-2009
For one evening, the Explorer Scout Hall was transformed into the Strathclyde Police Crisis Command Centre, as the Explorers were tasked with dealing with a serious incident on the M8 motorway.
With the help of PC Keith Robinson from Giffnock Police Office, the Explorers had to take on board information which was given to them in real time, deal with calls from upset and worried people, divert traffic (using six figure grid references and maps), speak to the media and calm down the public and generally manage the whole situation.
In the end, all teams managed to prevent widespread panic - even though the explosion of a gas plant came close!
At the end of the evening we had our annual presentaiton of awards, when Eagle Patrol (led by Sean Dougan as Patrol Leader) was announced as the winner of the points competition and Gerard Simpson was awarded the Explorer Scout of the Year Shield. Well done to everyone.
