To boldly go... - 25-11-2009

....where no Scout had gone before!

Captain Norwood and Captain Love led their Patrols to become astronauts this November.  They started their weekend of space exploration by collecting some space supplies (from Asda) and received a guest lecture from the quite mad Prof. Malcolm Black.

On Saturday morning the budding adventurers performed some experiments to learn about how rockets work- which ended in them having to mop vinegar off the ceiling! They then left the safety of Glengoyne Space Station to go on a trip to Glasgow Science Centre, which houses one of Europe's largest planetariums!

The rest of the weekend they performed some more experiments, which included making a teabag fly and exploding some diet coke before seeing some real rockets being launched from the launch control site opposite the space station!

Despite the abysmal weather a great time was had by all, and to combat the cold, young space cadet Commander Jack Blue, in a moment of inspiration devised a song to raise the crew's spirits. It goes:

We are freezing, we are freezing,
Turn up heating, turn up heating,
FROZEN SNOTTERS, FROZEN SNOTTERS,
We'll use them as chop-sticks!

For their troubles Captains Norwood and Love, along with the rest of their space teams have earned the Astronautics badge.

Over and out!
