1977 - Denmark

In 1975 it was agreed that plans be drawn up for a proposed expedition to Denmark in 1977. In the summer of 1976 the whole trip was reconsidered as approval had just been given to commence the building of our own new centre for Disabled Scouts.

As the boys had all been preparing for and looking forward to the trip for over a year, it was agreed that trip must go on. Fundraising continued with increased momentum, preparations were made and a further visit to Denmark followed in 1977. Hospitals and doctors were visited, the programme was finalised and the charter agreement with Steling Airways was drawn up.

There were a total of 121 in camp, which consisted of:

Disabled Scouts..............................53
Disabled Venture Scouts..................10
Staff...............................................32
Scouters.........................................21
Cooks.............................................5

A trial weekend was held at Auchengillan in June where all the boys and staff gathered to get to know each other and also to allow the staff to try out working with the boys. Sunday 18th July 1977 arrived and the boys congregated from all over the city and staff from all over the world to our assembly point in Giffnock. Midnight arrived and in two buses we made our way to Glasgow Airport. Here we loaded our specially chartered Caravelle Jet and were off on Summer Camp 1977!
