We are delighted that HM The Queen has awarded our Beaver Leader, Martin O’Neill an MBE for his services to young people with disabilities.
The announcement was made today (8th June) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Martin has been a trustee and fundraiser for Bobath Scotland since 1999, a charity which supports children and young people with cerebral palsy.
Martin has volunteered with Glasgow Disabled Scouts for more than 15 years, attending numerous camps and leading our Cub Scout Pack for many years. This year he has taken on the leadership of our newest section, based at Bobath, for girls and boys aged 6 and 7.
Our lead volunteer Michael Shanks said:
“This is such a well-deserved honour for Martin. His tireless charity work for both Bobath and Glasgow Disabled Scouts has improved the lives of so many young people with disabilities. He often takes on the less glamorous but extremely important roles at our camps, ensuring every young person is cared for and given the opportunity to take part in our activities.”
