On Saturday 6th June 2020 we invite you to join us for a fun-filled day walking from Milngavie to our outdoor centre at Auchengillan to raise funds for its redevelopment. The entire 10km route is accessible for all – we want as many of our young people to participate as possible.
We are trying to fundraise £250,000 so that our outdoor centre, Glengoyne Lodge, which doesn’t meet the complex care needs of the young people we support, can be redeveloped. You can find out much more about our appeal here.
This sponsored walk/run/hop/skip/cycle/crawl (whatever you like really!) is a chance for you to come along and have a fun, organised stroll with a celebration at the end. We also hope you’ll fundraise a little for us towards our appeal.
Find out more below and if you have any questions please get in touch!
The event will kick off at 10.30am on Saturday 6th June.
Participants will be given a staggered starting time depending on whether they plan to walk or run the route so that we can hopefully have most people together at the finish line for a celebration!
Exact timings will be issued to participants closer to the day but you should aim to keep most of the day free so you can enjoy all the activities and catering we will have at the finish line at Glengoyne Lodge.
The meeting point will be at Milngavie Train Station (G62 8PG) and the start line will be at the official start of the West Highland Way.
The route will then mostly follow accessible paths and trails along the West Highland Way through Mugdock Park and then a brief detour onto the John Muir Way before finishing up at Glengoyne Lodge, Auchengillan. You can read about this section of the West Highland Way here (though you won’t be going all the way to Drymen!)
We have specially selected the route so it is accessible for all abilities.
We have decided not to have any entry fee to participate because we want this to be an inclusive event. However we would like everyone who participates to fundraise for our Glengoyne Lodge appeal.
Once you sign up you will be given links to download paper sponsor forms and set up an online page which you can share with your family, friends and colleagues. Please also remember to check if your employer offers any match funding schemes which could add more to your fundraising total!
We appreciate lots of people will be starting in Milngavie and need to find their way back to their car or the train home! We will be arranging transport to get you from the finish line back to Milngavie or vice versa in the morning if you’d rather leave your car at Auchengillan.
All these details will be shared with you before the event itself but if you have any questions please get in touch.
If you have any questions at all please get in touch with us! We are all volunteers so we might not get back to you straight away but you will get a response as soon as possible.
We’ll also add some questions here that other people have asked us in case they are helpful to you too.
Yes, we specifically chose a route which is completely wheelchair accessible. Some sections will be a little bumpy but it is accessible. The route will loop round a section of the John Muir Way to avoid one tricky part of ground on the West Highland Way route. If you have any concerns / questions about this please get in touch with us.
If you would like to sign up to take part in the event please complete your details below. For individual participants we need one sign up per person. You can also enter a team, which allows you to add multiple members of your team (and you can add more / remove some later on).
